My health insurance (self employed, high CoL area USA, healthy/not old) is 6k$/yr. Kind of blows up that $18k/yr idea. I don't think it gets that much better if you live in a low CoL area.
You turn the knobs you've got. If you have a problem, and "just try harder to do the hard thing" doesn't work, you have to try something else.
I had to quit alcohol for a year+ before being able to reintroduce it in small and manageable ways. Some people have to quit forever. Not an unreasonable metaphor for device addiction.
I am stunned by DT's longevity. I'm finally starting to wear thin the back of the ankle/heel from shoe friction in one set, after about 6 years, with a total of about 8pr socks in rotation. Including about 15,000mi of use cycling.
Yes. I have briefly encountered the real coffee nerds. They are extremely serious and meticulous about their coffee, do actual science, and, I am sad to say, the coffee was better than any coffee I have had before or since.
You will not get coffee that good from a coffee shop, it isn't economically viable. But the technology exists.
I just reinstalled Windows, so I've had the joy of a bunch of stupid MS stuff (why did you make my /~ homedir the first five letters of my email? WHY?) but I have to admit, this, I have not encountered.
Yeah, it's one of the reasons I use a Microsoft account to collect the PC entitlements and then create a local user account that has a sane profile name and never touch the online account again.
Doing something where you get to say "bugger everything" and just do what you're doing for a while is amazing. It's one of the things I actually like about the (otherwise not very relaxing) ultra-distance racing.
2-6 days of just riding your bike, eating, sleeping outside. Yeah it can be hard but nothing makes the MS Teams chime in the woods.
Part of why I like sailing is for a similar reason, beyond a certain range the only people who can bother you electronically are other people at sea (and you actually want to listen to them).
My GP just offered it during my physical along with the flu and COVID booster. I declined the COVID booster since I had just gotten a mild case a couple months back. Got two shots in the left arm, was sore for a day and that was that.
